Porto, Portugal – April 4th, 2024: IncBio, a leading Portuguese engineering company specializing in advanced biodiesel technologies, has been contracted to provide engineering support for the upgrade and commissioning of a methanol distillation column at BioVigo biodiesel plant in Spain. Originally built in 2010, the plant never became operational and is now being rebooted in 2024, with the methanol distillation column set to play a critical role in its successful restart.
As part of the project, IncBio will be responsible for the engineering and development of the full system, including the development of the plant’s SCADA system, which will control the methanol column, using Siemens software. The SCADA system will ensure seamless operation, providing real-time monitoring and automation to maximize efficiency and minimize operational costs.
The installation of a functional methanol distillation column is crucial for the biodiesel plant, allowing for the recovery and purification of excess methanol, which can be reused in the biodiesel production process. This recycling of methanol reduces operating expenses and supports the plant’s environmental sustainability, significantly improving its overall profitability.
José Marques, CEO of IncBio, commented: “We are excited to partner with BioVigo to bring this plant back to life. The integration of our SCADA system and engineering expertise will ensure that the methanol column operates efficiently, delivering the cost-saving and environmental benefits that a functional methanol recovery system offers.”
The startup of the methanol column is expected by October 2024, marking a major step toward the full operation of the BioVigo biodiesel plant.
